Why it fits a Bugging Out carport

The REV is the same idea as the Scout Harvester, in a full-size half-ton: drive on electricity, carry gas as a backup, and send power back out. Under a heavy-timber solar carport, the sun handles the daily charging and keeps topping up the battery through an outage. The V6 generator means the evacuation drive never depends on finding a charger.

What it can carry in an outage

With about 70 kWh usable and the average home using about 29 kWh a day, a full REV battery covers a couple of days of normal living, or several days on essentials. A sunny day on the carport adds back around 30 kWh. Ram hasn't said whether the generator can recharge the battery while the truck sits parked powering a house, so we plan around the sun for that.

Two trucks, one roof

A Bugging Out carport is sized for two full-size trucks side by side. A REV and a Scout under one solar roof means two batteries, two generators and one house that doesn't care when the grid goes down.

Drive one on the sand first. Ram is one of the brands in the Carolina Auto Program, where you drive an off-road 4x4 on the Outer Banks beach before you buy.

Ram 1500 REV questions

Is the Ram 1500 REV the same truck as the Ramcharger?

Yes. Ram developed it as the Ramcharger, then in September 2025 canceled its all-electric pickup and moved the REV name to this range-extended truck. It arrives as the 2027 Ram 1500 REV.

Can the Ram 1500 REV power a house?

Ram says the REV has vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-vehicle bidirectional charging, plus a bed-mounted power panel rated up to 7.2 kW for jobsites, tailgating or backup power.

When can I buy one?

Later than first planned. Ram now says 2027, and a September 2026 supplier report put the start of production around spring 2027, at its Sterling Heights, Michigan plant. Pricing hasn't been announced.

How far does it go?

Ram targets about 145 miles on electricity and up to 690 miles total with the gas generator and a full 27-gallon tank.
